Senior Specialist, Data Governance

About the role

Save the Children International is looking for a Senior Specialist to lead the implementation, adoption and continuous improvement of data governance frameworks globally. The role ensures effective data management, regulatory compliance and high data quality to support better decision‑making for children’s programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and enhancement of data governance policies, standards, frameworks and controls across the organisation.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to drive adoption of governance practices and strengthen capability.
• Monitor data quality, coordinate remediation of critical issues and manage data‑related risks.
• Define and maintain artefacts such as business glossaries, metadata standards, data dictionaries and Critical Data Elements.
• Facilitate governance forums, working groups and stewardship communities.
• Implement data ownership, stewardship and access‑management processes in collaboration with IT and business teams.
• Track governance maturity, compliance and performance through KPIs and reporting.
• Provide expert advice on governance processes, support audits and regulatory requirements, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven ability to solve complex data governance challenges and manage data risk.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with experience influencing senior data owners and stewards.
• Strong understanding of data governance principles, metadata management, data quality and master data lifecycle.
• Leadership experience driving change and adoption of governance frameworks in global, diverse teams.

Required skills

• Advanced Power BI for analysing large datasets and building governance dashboards.
• Experience with data governance and quality tools, data catalogues and reporting solutions.
• Knowledge of metadata standards, data dictionaries and business glossaries.
