Senior Systems Engineer – Optical Ground Stations

About the role

Archangel Lightworks is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the specification, design, integration and testing of its deployable optical ground stations and related products. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, external partners and customers to ensure robust, interoperable systems that meet operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Own system or subsystem specifications, verification activities and serve as the primary technical liaison for external partners.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks and issues throughout the development lifecycle.
• Produce accurate requirements, designs, models and documentation, ensuring consistency and performance across the overall architecture.
• Plan and execute verification, qualification and operational demonstrations to internal and external standards.
• Lead sprint planning, manage Agile workflows and coordinate subsystem development, supplier and subcontractor activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience on complex communications, electro‑optical or embedded software systems.
• Hands‑on ability to operate hardware, run tests, perform demos and troubleshoot issues.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering standards and processes (MBSE, SysML) and related tooling.
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead technical discussions with senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• SysML modelling and Enterprise Architect tool usage.
• Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology.
• Matlab and Simulink for control‑system modelling.
• Python for data analysis and automation.
• Networking protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP and MQTT.
• Data serialization formats including JSON and Protobuf.
