Senior Tax Investigations Manager

About the role

We are a leading Top 10 accountancy firm seeking an experienced Senior Tax Investigations Manager to join our Tax Disputes & Investigations team in Birmingham. You will lead complex HMRC enquiries, disclosures and tax disputes for a diverse client base, working closely with partners and directors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of high‑value tax investigations and dispute resolution matters.
• Manage HMRC enquiries, disclosures, compliance checks and settlement negotiations.
• Advise clients on tax risk, controversy and COP8/COP9 investigations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners and key stakeholders.
• Oversee and review the work of managers and junior team members.
• Identify business development opportunities and support growth initiatives.
• Collaborate with partners on technically challenging, high‑profile assignments.

Required profile

• CTA qualified (preferred) and/or ACA, ACCA or ATT qualified.
• Significant experience in tax investigations, disputes, controversy or HMRC enquiries.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and HMRC processes.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases and client relationships.
• Experience leading teams and developing junior staff.
• Commercially minded with business development capability.
• Background in a Top 20, Top 10, Big 4 or specialist tax advisory firm.
