Software Engineer – Agile Consultant

About the role

Opencast is looking for a Software Engineer who values craftsmanship, clean design and thoughtful problem‑solving over sheer speed. You will work as a consultant in complex environments, pairing with peers and delivering high‑quality code for UK government digital services.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and deliver items from the team backlog.
• Collaborate on testing efforts and lead the implementation of user stories.
• Practice mobbing, pair programming and test‑driven development.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, manage expectations and ensure a smooth transition from discovery to live.
• Continuously improve code quality through refactoring and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Active Security Check (SC) clearance or eligibility to obtain one (UK citizenship, five years continuous residence, no absence >28 days).
• Experience delivering digital services for the UK government, familiarity with the GDS toolkit is a plus.
• Strong commitment to learning, T‑shaped skill set and ability to work in an agile, collaborative environment.
