Specialist Doctor – Emergency Medicine

About the role

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Specialist Doctor in Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Department at the purpose‑built Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington. The role involves working evenings, weekends and nights alongside a multidisciplinary consultant team to deliver high‑quality emergency care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consultant‑level emergency medicine services across all shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends.
• Collaborate with the full Emergency Department consultant team to manage acute presentations.
• Contribute to the coordination and improvement of emergency service delivery.
• Utilise the hospital’s advanced diagnostic imaging facilities to support efficient patient management.
• Support the Ambulatory Care Unit in decompressing the emergency department and caring for ambulatory patients.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with specialist registration in Emergency Medicine.
• Experience working in a high‑throughput emergency department, preferably with shift work.
• Commitment to delivering outstanding patient care within an NHS setting.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in emergency medicine.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic imaging modalities.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
