Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics

About the role

The Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics will join the Anaesthetic team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, delivering high‑quality patient care across theatres and critical care. The role is primarily based in Basingstoke with occasional duties at other Trust sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthetic care for a wide range of surgical specialties in main theatres and the Day Treatment Centre.
• Participate in the resident 1st on‑call rota, covering both theatre and Critical Care Unit duties.
• Conduct handovers, regular ward rounds and assess critically unwell patients in A&E and on wards.
• Support colleagues during annual leave and adapt on‑call commitments as required.
• Develop competence in major surgical cases and sub‑specialities under consultant supervision.

Required profile

• Qualified doctor with experience equivalent to a CT2 trainee in anaesthesia.
• Willingness to work a 1:8 on‑call rota, including weekends and nights.
• Ability to work collaboratively with intensive care and anaesthetic consultants.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care and continuous professional development.
