Specialty Doctor – Neonatal Medicine

About the role

This role offers a Specialty Doctor the opportunity to join a well‑established medical team within the Women’s and Children centre at The Princess Royal Hospital. You will work in a supportive environment focused on high‑quality neonatal care and professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute Neonatal Unit cover and attend deliveries, delivering Neonatal Life Support (NLS) when required.
• Run Rapid Access Neonatal Outpatient Clinics.
• Perform general ward duties, including patient reviews and day‑to‑day management of the neonatal unit, delivery suite and postnatal ward.
• Assess and manage critically ill or injured babies.
• Participate in a 1‑in‑8 tier 2 rota for on‑call cover.
• Develop enhanced clinical skills, particularly in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
• Deliver clinical and quality targets set nationally and locally.
• Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Required profile

• Medical qualification in paediatrics or neonatology and full GMC registration.
• Experience in neonatal care, including acute and outpatient settings.
• Strong team‑working abilities and professional attitude within a multi‑professional environment.
• Commitment to supporting trainees and continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Neonatal Life Support (NLS).
• Assessment and management of acutely ill neonates.
• Experience with neonatal outpatient clinics.
• Familiarity with tier 2 on‑call rotas.
