Substitute Teacher (K-12)

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic substitute teachers to support our K‑12 classrooms at ASL, an international school in London. You will step in on short notice to ensure continuity of learning and uphold our inclusive, inquiry‑based curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
• Manage classroom discipline and create a safe, positive learning environment in line with school and county policies.
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of K‑12 school structures, programs, and student needs.
• Adapt quickly to short‑notice assignments, including day‑to‑day cover, maternity leave, or long‑term illness.
• Assist with supervising extra‑curricular activities when required.
• Use initiative to solve problems and make decisions that prioritize student welfare.
• Communicate effectively with students of varying ages and backgrounds.
• Develop and deliver improvised lessons when original lesson plans are unavailable.
• Apply recent professional development and prior K‑12 teaching experience to each assignment.

Required profile

• Previous experience teaching in a K‑12 setting.
• Recent and relevant professional development in education.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and classroom needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse student groups.
• Ability to uphold school policies and maintain a respectful learning environment.
