NHS Supply Chain · Derbyshire
Job description
About the role
The Tax Accountant will join NHS Supply Chain's Finance team to support accurate, efficient and well‑controlled tax processes during a period of transformation. This position focuses on data quality, process ownership and analysis rather than specialist tax advice, working closely with the Tax & Treasury Lead, finance colleagues, external advisors and auditors.
Key responsibilities

- Prepare high‑quality data, reconciliations and analysis for quarterly and year‑end tax reporting, including provisions, disclosures and inputs to forecasting.
- Manage employment taxes and PAYE Settlement Agreement submissions by extracting, reconciling and validating relevant expense data.
- Use Oracle Fusion to extract, interrogate and analyse tax‑relevant data, maintaining robust supporting schedules and audit trails.
- Investigate tax movements, analyse variances, identify drivers and communicate findings to finance teams and auditors.
- Act as the operational contact for internal and external audit, coordinating responses and providing documentation.
- Handle routine HMRC queries, support tax‑related questions and partner with finance teams to ensure compliant outputs.
Required profile
- Qualified accountant with a strong interest in tax, data and process improvement.
- Detail‑oriented and able to work hands‑on with financial systems and large data sets.
- Effective communicator who can explain tax movements to diverse stakeholders.
- Comfortable collaborating with external advisors, auditors and internal finance partners.
Required skills
- Oracle Fusion (financial system for tax data extraction and reporting).
What we offer
- Permanent contract with a hybrid working model (Nottingham or Alfreton office).
- Starting salary of £47,874, rising to £56,322 over three years.
- Opportunities for continuous improvement, professional development and contribution to NHS transformation.
