Transport Planner

About the role

The Transport Planner will oversee a dedicated fleet of 15‑20 vehicles, ensuring safe, compliant and cost‑effective transport operations. You will be responsible for daily planning, driver coordination and performance monitoring while maintaining high service levels.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage daily and weekly transport activities for the fleet.
• Allocate vehicles and drivers to maximise utilisation and meet customer requirements.
• Own driver coordination, support and cost control (overtime, waiting time, inefficiencies).
• Monitor live operations and re‑plan in response to delays, breakdowns or short‑notice changes.
• Ensure compliance with ADR, driver hours and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate data in transport management systems and communicate updates to drivers, operations and customers.
• Escalate service, cost or compliance risks to the Planning Supervisor.

Required profile

• Experience in UK transport planning or logistics operations.
• Strong commercial awareness with a focus on cost control.
• Ability to prioritise and make decisions in a fast‑moving environment.
• Clear communicator with drivers and operational stakeholders.

Required skills

• ADR knowledge
• Proficiency with transport management systems
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
