Transport Planner – Logistics Planning Role

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join a manufacturing business in Whittlesey, Peterborough. You will take ownership of planning customer deliveries across dedicated depots, ensuring fleet capacity is used effectively while meeting customer expectations and managing transport costs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan customer deliveries and driver loads using electronic scheduling systems.
• Maximise fleet utilisation and delivery efficiency by planning ahead.
• Identify third‑party haulage requirements and coordinate additional transport.
• Work towards performance targets such as loads per day and cost per load.
• Minimise empty runs and seek opportunities to reduce transport costs.
• React quickly to urgent loads, changes and operational issues.
• Resolve queries from drivers, customers, sales teams and transport colleagues.
• Provide clear updates on delivery dates, failed loads and uncovered work.
• Analyse planning reports and system data to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Organised, analytical and comfortable making decisions in a busy transport environment.
• Previous experience in transport, logistics or distribution planning.
• Knowledge of transport legislation and the Working Time Directive.
• Strong communication skills and confidence to work with multiple stakeholders.
• Good literacy, numeracy and attention to detail.
• Proactive, flexible and team‑focused approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computerised routing, scheduling or resource planning systems.
• Strong computer literacy.

• Salary up to £33,000 per year.
• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 9am–5pm office‑based role.
