VAT Manager – Indirect Tax Advisory

About the role

This position offers the chance to join a well‑established indirect tax team within a top‑10 UK accountancy practice. You will work on a variety of VAT advisory projects, supporting clients with complex and evolving indirect tax matters while developing both technical and commercial expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver VAT advisory services for a broad portfolio of clients, providing practical, commercially focused advice.
• Support complex VAT matters, applying legislation and case law to real‑world business scenarios.
• Manage VAT engagements from scoping through delivery, ensuring high technical and quality standards.
• Draft clear, well‑structured written advice and reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Build strong client relationships and act as the day‑to‑day point of contact on engagements.
• Support, review and coach junior team members, contributing to their technical development.
• Collaborate with senior managers, directors and partners on larger, more complex advisory projects.

Required profile

• Solid experience in VAT/Indirect Tax, gained in practice, advisory or in‑house environments.
• Proven experience working on VAT advisory matters with a good understanding of UK VAT legislation.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly.
• Experience reviewing junior team members' work and supporting their development.
• Commercially minded with a collaborative approach to client and colleague interactions.
