A0 Sailor Trainee Program – Entry Level Nautical Position

About the role

Viking offers an A0 Sailor Trainee Program as part of its Nautical Education pathway. This entry‑level apprenticeship is designed for candidates with no prior experience in inland passenger shipping. Over 90 sailing days, trainees learn essential ship operations aboard a Viking Longship under the direct supervision of the Captain and a dedicated trainer team.

Key responsibilities

• Participate actively in onboard training sessions covering mooring, anchoring and steering.
• Assist with routine maintenance of ship systems and equipment.
• Apply safety regulations and ensure compliance during all operations.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the vessel.
• Study assigned course material and prepare for the final qualification exam.

Required profile

• Eligibility to work in the European Union or possession of a valid EU work permit.
• Strong interest in maritime operations and a willingness to learn on the job.
• Ability to work in a team environment under the guidance of senior crew.
