Accountant – Banking Sector (London)

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Accountant to join the small finance team of an international bank’s UK branch, based in the City of London. The role involves preparing statutory accounts, managing VAT returns and supporting the external audit process while ensuring full compliance with UK banking regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial accounting information in line with UK regulatory requirements.
• Compile and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Produce financial statements and assist auditors during external assurance reviews.
• Generate daily P&L reports with variance analysis and commentary.
• Investigate and resolve accounting queries for the UK branch.
• Review and monitor General Ledger accounts.
• Maintain and update departmental procedures as systems evolve.
• Support the Head of Finance on strategic projects and system improvements.
• Provide training and support to finance team members as needed.

Required profile

• Proven accounting experience within the banking sector.
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (finalist status acceptable).
• Strong understanding of UK banking regulations and accounting principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
