About the role
The University of Birmingham is seeking an Assistant Professor (Education) in Palaeobiology to join its School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. This fixed‑term position (up to August 2027) involves delivering high‑quality teaching, supporting student development, and contributing to curriculum innovation.
Key responsibilities
- Manage, develop and deliver teaching and assessment for Palaeobiology and related Earth Sciences modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Lead curriculum development and renewal initiatives within the school.
- Provide expert advice and mentorship to staff and students on learning, teaching and assessment practices.
- Enhance student experience, employability and pastoral support.
- Contribute to knowledge transfer, enterprise, public engagement and outreach activities.
Required profile
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning within Earth Sciences or related disciplines.
- Commitment to academic citizenship and collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to reflect on and develop personal teaching practice using feedback.
- Willingness to engage in research-informed teaching and professional development.

What we offer
- Competitive salary range £47,389 – £56,535 per annum (potential progression to £63,606).
- Fixed‑term contract with a structured 5‑year Academic Development Programme leading to promotion to Associate Professor.
