Assistant Professor (Research & Education) – Law School

About the role

The University of Birmingham’s Law School is hiring two Assistant Professors (Research & Education) to join its academic community. The role combines teaching, research, and administrative duties, with a focus on law subjects such as Environmental Law, Legal Theory, Criminal Law, Criminal Evidence, and Law, Justice and Ethics.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching and assessment across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Develop and review curricula, modules and learning resources.
• Initiate, conduct and disseminate original research, aiming for national and international recognition.
• Supervise and examine PhD candidates and provide expert advice to staff and students.
• Contribute to school‑level management, working groups and leadership activities.
• Engage in knowledge transfer, public outreach, widening participation and business engagement initiatives.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to teach and lead in one or more of the specified law areas.
• Evidence of a developing research agenda with measurable outcomes.
• Commitment to academic citizenship and collaborative working relationships.
• Willingness to contribute to student experience, employability and school administration.
