About the role
The University of Birmingham’s Law School is hiring two Assistant Professors (Research & Education) to join its academic community. The role combines teaching, research, and administrative duties, with a focus on law subjects such as Environmental Law, Legal Theory, Criminal Law, Criminal Evidence, and Law, Justice and Ethics.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality teaching and assessment across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Develop and review curricula, modules and learning resources.
- Initiate, conduct and disseminate original research, aiming for national and international recognition.
- Supervise and examine PhD candidates and provide expert advice to staff and students.
- Contribute to school‑level management, working groups and leadership activities.
- Engage in knowledge transfer, public outreach, widening participation and business engagement initiatives.
Required profile
- Demonstrated ability to teach and lead in one or more of the specified law areas.
- Evidence of a developing research agenda with measurable outcomes.
- Commitment to academic citizenship and collaborative working relationships.
- Willingness to contribute to student experience, employability and school administration.

- Full‑time permanent contract with a salary range of £47,389–£56,535 per annum.
