Chef – Hospitality & Catering at Field Studies Council

About the role

We are looking for a Chef to join the Hospitality & Catering team at the Field Studies Council’s Blencathra centre in the Lake District. You will support the Lead Cook in delivering high‑quality meals to resident groups, working within a relaxed, non‑restaurant environment that ends each shift by 7:30 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Cook with daily food preparation and cooking.
• Manage kitchen operations, including stock control and equipment maintenance.
• Deputise for the Lead Cook when required.
• Supervise and support the catering team during breakfast (7‑11 am) and dinner (3‑7:30 pm) services.
• Prepare set menus offering two to three food choices per meal.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a kitchen or chef role.
• Ability to work split‑shift patterns and deliver consistent service.
• Commitment to the charity’s environmental education mission.
