Clerk of Works – Building & M&E Compliance

About the role

The Clerk of Works will act as the client’s on‑site representative, providing independent, technically‑focused oversight of contractor activities. You will ensure that all building and mechanical & electrical (M&E) works are delivered to the approved drawings, specifications, statutory regulations and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor contractor works on‑site, verifying compliance with drawings, specifications and statutory standards.
• Identify non‑compliant work, enforce corrective actions and maintain evidence‑based reporting.
• Support the Project Manager by flagging risks, defects, delays and technical issues.
• Review contractor performance against programme milestones and change‑control procedures.
• Produce accurate inspection reports and compliance documentation.
• Work within live operational environments while minimising disruption to site activities.
• Build effective relationships with contractors, consultants, designers and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector or similar role in building services or construction.
• Mechanical engineering background is highly preferred.
• Strong experience overseeing complex building services or M&E projects.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering knowledge
• Building services inspection
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and construction legislation
• Familiarity with RAMS, permits, isolations and temporary works inspections

• Three‑month fixed‑term contract with potential extension
