Consultant Ophthalmologist – Glaucoma Specialist

About the role

The University Hospital Southampton Eye Unit is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in glaucoma. This permanent position starts in October 2026 (or ASAP) and offers the chance to lead high‑quality glaucoma services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver expert care for complex glaucoma cases, including diagnosis, medical management and surgical intervention.
• Run dedicated glaucoma clinics and perform both conventional glaucoma surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
• Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Teach and train resident doctors, nurses, optometrists and other staff.
• Stay current with advances in glaucoma care and surgical techniques.

Required profile

• Qualified Consultant Ophthalmologist with a strong interest or proven expertise in glaucoma.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care and continuous professional development.
