Cybersecurity Threat Researcher – Threat Lab

About the role

The Cybersecurity Threat Researcher will join KnowBe4's Threat Research Lab to analyse large data‑sets, identify emerging threat trends and help protect organisations from phishing and AI‑powered attacks.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse trends and patterns in large data‑sets to establish threat trends across regions, industries and business segments.
• Investigate phishing emails, configure isolated malware analysis VMs and perform basic static and dynamic malware analysis.
• Research and document threat actor tools and techniques using the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Triage, investigate and respond to alerts from the KnowBe4 email platform.
• Contribute to external‑facing Threat Lab content such as blogs and reports.

Required profile

• BS degree with at least 3 years relevant experience, or MS degree with at least 1 year experience.
• Strong interest in cyber security, phishing mitigation and vulnerability research.
• Experience with public speaking and handling complex customer queries.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IOCs, reverse engineering and threat campaign tracking.
• Experience analysing malicious URLs and phishing emails.
• Scripting automation using Python for large volumes of threat artifacts.
• Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, PowerShell, Command Prompt, WMIC, Scheduled Tasks, SCM, Windows enumeration, lateral movement, persistence and defense evasion techniques.
• Basic malware analysis (static & dynamic) and VM configuration.
