Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join a leading precision engineering and manufacturing organisation in Northumberland. The role involves creating innovative engineering solutions, managing projects from concept to prototype, and acting as the technical liaison between customers and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customer engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop engineering solutions using CAD to produce 3D models and 2D drawings, with optional CFD analysis.
• Manage allocated projects, including raising purchase orders, overseeing prototype builds and testing.
• Collaborate with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure smooth transition to manufacture.
• Provide technical support to the Sales department when required.
• Maintain and archive all customer‑related information in line with departmental procedures.
• Work in compliance with Health & Safety regulations and uphold 5S housekeeping standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (essential).
• 3–4 years of experience in design, development and manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency with CAD software for 3D modelling and 2D drawing.
• Familiarity with Ansys or similar CFD tools (advantageous).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics, CFD and basic electrical engineering concepts is beneficial.
