About the role
The District Nursing Service in West Dunbartonshire is seeking a Specialist Practitioner to deliver high‑quality, culturally sensitive nursing care to patients of all ages in the community. Working from the Vale Centre for Health and Care, you will operate within a 365‑day open‑access model, responding to both planned and urgent care needs.
Key responsibilities
- Provide accessible, high‑quality nursing services to community patients in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies.
- Act as an autonomous practitioner, using specialist district nursing expertise to support the team.
- Deliver skilled nursing interventions and manage a caseload of patients.
- Coordinate workload, delegate tasks, and support other district nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and care plans in line with NMC standards and data protection legislation.
- Utilise clinical and environmental risk‑assessment tools, report incidents and contribute to investigations.
- Respond to emergency situations such as anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest by providing basic life support.
- Support patients, relatives and carers to achieve optimal health and independence.
- Establish systems to ensure a continuous 24‑hour nursing service.
Required profile
- Registered Nurse with a specialist district nursing qualification.
- Proven experience in community or district nursing.
- Ability to work independently and make autonomous clinical decisions.
- Strong record‑keeping and documentation skills compliant with NMC, Data Protection Act and FOI requirements.
- Competence in emergency response and basic life support.
Required skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Clinical risk‑assessment tools.
- Knowledge of NMC record‑keeping standards.
- Familiarity with Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act compliance.
