Head of Insurance Risk

About the role

This senior position sits at the heart of insurance risk, offering a qualified actuary or pricing expert the chance to move beyond pure pricing into a strategic, second‑line risk function. You will work closely with the Chief Actuary and senior leadership to challenge and shape pricing, underwriting and reinsurance strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent challenge to pricing, underwriting and reinsurance strategies.
• Review and validate pricing models to ensure they accurately reflect underlying risks.
• Influence business strategy through technical insight and robust risk oversight.
• Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting and senior leadership teams.
• Support capital modelling, stress testing and risk appetite activities.

Required profile

• Qualified Actuary (or equivalent senior insurance qualification).
• Strong experience in pricing and actuarial work within an insurer or consultancy.
• Deep understanding of how pricing drives profitability, growth and portfolio performance.
• Commercial mindset with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Desire to broaden career into strategic insurance risk.
