Night Nurse – Primary Care in Prison Setting

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Night Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Stafford, a Category C prison for adult males. The role works a 37.5‑hour rolling rota covering nights, with occasional day shifts for professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver nurse‑led care within a multi‑disciplinary team to prevent hospital admissions.
• Carry out medication rounds, dispense controlled medication and manage emergency response situations.
• Conduct patient assessments, reception screening and provide nurse‑led clinics for the prison population.
• Promote evidence‑based, non‑judgemental care and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with the right to work in the UK.
• Willingness to work night shifts and occasional day shifts on a rotating basis.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality care in a secure environment.

Required skills

• Medication administration, including controlled substances.
• Clinical assessment and emergency response.
• Ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team.
