About the role
The Performance & Wellbeing Lead will design, implement and champion a holistic wellbeing programme for female players across the Professional Game Academy (PGA) and its age‑group teams. Working closely with coaches, the Academy Manager and external partners, you will ensure that players receive tailored support that balances elite football demands with education and personal development.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain a learning environment where staff reflect on practice and experiment with new approaches.
- Model sustainable wellbeing and working practices for players and staff.
- Co‑create individualized support plans documented in each player’s Individual Development Plan (IDP).
- Use evidence‑based, research‑backed methods to review and improve the wellbeing programme.
- Provide continuity of support for players on loan, training away, or under Academy contracts.
- Ensure the PGA programme meets or exceeds FA PGA criteria and contributes to audit and accreditation processes.
- Collaborate with coaches to embed wellbeing objectives into daily training.
- Build strong relationships with FA, partner clubs, external practitioners, parents and carers.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience leading wellbeing or performance support programmes in sport or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by female athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the capacity to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Required skills
- Knowledge of evidence‑based wellbeing frameworks and assessment tools.
- Experience developing Individual Development Plans (IDPs) or similar personalised support documents.
- Familiarity with FA PGA standards and accreditation processes.
