About the role
This permanent Band 7 position offers a unique opportunity to lead NHS Lothian’s Primary Care Pharmacy Central Services team. You will manage a multidisciplinary team delivering prescribing support across all general practices in Lothian, shaping technical aspects of medicines management and contributing to strategic service development.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the pan‑Lothian team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support workers delivering prescribing support services.
- Oversee analysis and interpretation of prescribing data using tools such as PIS, Tableau and Scriptswitch to inform practice‑level interventions.
- Provide professional leadership to lead pharmacy technicians, ensuring consistent, high‑quality service delivery.
- Develop and maintain prescribing support software and decision‑support tools.
- Offer technical leadership for safe handling of unlicensed medicines and manage medicine supply‑chain enquiries.
- Contribute to clinical governance through audit, risk management and SOP development.
- Collaborate with GPs, practice teams and community pharmacists to promote safe, effective, and economical use of medicines.
- Support education and training initiatives for pharmacy staff and wider primary‑care teams.
Required profile
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Experience in technical pharmacy services, preferably within a primary‑care setting.
- HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex service delivery.
Required skills
- Proficiency with prescribing data tools such as PIS, Tableau and Scriptswitch.
