QA & Test Engineer (Hybrid, Witney)

About the role

We are partnering with an early‑stage UK deep‑tech start‑up that is building a real‑time safety layer for autonomous systems. The company is looking for a QA & Test Engineer to design and run verification for its embedded software platform, reporting directly to the CTO.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build test infrastructure for embedded software across multiple hardware platforms and real‑time operating systems.
• Write automated test pipelines in Python and integrate them into CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, GitLab or GitHub Actions.
• Set up Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments, including automated deployment to multiple targets.
• Develop performance and integration test coverage using simulation tools like Gazebo and rosbag.
• Define and maintain test cases, procedures and frameworks with full traceability.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, systems architects and AI/ML engineers to embed quality from day one.
• Lead defect reporting, tracking and resolution through structured QA processes.
• Prepare test results, coverage metrics and assurance evidence for internal and external reviews.
• Explore and introduce next‑generation verification techniques such as fuzz testing, property‑based testing, constrained random and formal methods.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent commercial experience.
• 3+ years of Python development in a commercial or academic setting.
• Hands‑on experience with embedded software testing and QA.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and modern Git‑based workflows.
• Practical experience with SIL and HIL, including automated deployment.
• Experience with at least one test framework and automation tooling.
• Comfortable working with simulation tools such as Gazebo and rosbag.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and debugging skills.
• Daily practice of Agile, CI and TDD.
