School Caretaker / Site Assistant – Northfield, Birmingham

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a reliable School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join a well‑regarded secondary school in Northfield, Birmingham. You will work under the Premises Manager to keep the school environment safe, secure and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, secure and well‑presented school site.
• Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Assist with opening and locking the premises each day.
• Support classroom set‑up and school events.
• Monitor health and safety across the site and report issues.
• Liaise with external contractors when required.
• Help keep the school grounds clean and tidy.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker, site assistant, facilities or maintenance role (preferred).
• Basic DIY and maintenance abilities.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Flexible and proactive attitude.
