School Staff Nurse – Band 5

About the role

The School Staff Nurse (Band 5) will join a multidisciplinary team delivering universal and targeted health services to primary and secondary schools, pupil referral units and special schools across the bi‑borough area. Working under the supervision of Band 6 Specialist Community Public Health Nurses, you will support the health and wellbeing of children and young people in an educational setting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of pupils across a group of schools, providing health assessments and ongoing care.
• Deliver classroom teaching and presentations on managing medical conditions.
• Maintain a safeguarding caseload and ensure safe pathways of care for children with complex health needs.
• Contribute to the Healthy Child Programme and promote health and wellness initiatives.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
• Use clinical judgement and risk assessment to safeguard service users.
• Escalate safety concerns, supervise junior staff and reflect on practice for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Post‑registration nursing experience in a paediatric, children’s, or adult setting.
• Demonstrated experience of effective multi‑agency working.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with school staff, families and external partners.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality care and safeguarding children.
