Self-Employed Passenger Assistant – 10‑16 hrs/week

About the role

The HATS Group is seeking a self‑employed Passenger Assistant to escort and support clients with special needs during their daily journeys. Working part‑time (10‑16 hours per week), you will ensure safe boarding, travel, and alighting for passengers travelling to homes, schools, centres or other destinations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist clients with severe disabilities or medical conditions to board and alight vehicles, using tail‑lifts and other equipment as required.
• Secure wheelchairs and passengers with the appropriate safety restraints and retaining mechanisms.
• Maintain clear communication with the Controller, reporting any disruptive behaviour, absenteeism, lateness or incidents.
• Apply health and safety standards throughout the journey, including the use of personal protective equipment and hygiene controls.
• Keep the interior and exterior of the vehicle clean and tidy to required standards.
• Work flexible core hours (07:00‑09:00 and 14:30‑16:30) and undertake additional duties as service needs dictate.

Required profile

• Physically able to assist passengers with severe disabilities and to operate lifting equipment.
• Strong attention to safety and wellbeing of clients at all times.
• Reliable communication skills for reporting to the Controller.
• Willingness to follow daily and weekly schedules and to report incidents promptly.

Required skills

• Operation of tail‑lifts and other passenger‑assistance equipment.
• Securing wheelchairs and passengers using safety restraints.
• Application of health‑and‑safety procedures and use of PPE.
• Vehicle cleanliness and hygiene maintenance.
