Senior Data Governance Specialist

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking a Senior Specialist to lead the implementation, adoption and continuous improvement of data governance frameworks globally. The role ensures effective data management, regulatory compliance and high data quality to support better decision‑making for children’s programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and enhancement of data governance policies, standards, frameworks and controls across the organisation.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to drive adoption of data governance practices and strengthen governance capability.
• Define and maintain data governance artefacts such as business glossaries, metadata standards, data dictionaries and Critical Data Elements.
• Facilitate data governance forums, working groups and stewardship communities to ensure accountability and engagement.
• Monitor governance maturity, compliance and performance through KPIs, reporting and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Support audits, regulatory requirements and organisational initiatives by ensuring adherence to data governance policies.

Required profile

• Proven ability to resolve complex data governance challenges, conduct root‑cause analysis and mitigate data risks.
• Excellent communication, influencing and facilitation skills with senior stakeholders, data owners and cross‑functional teams.
• Strong understanding of data governance principles, metadata management, data quality, master data and data lifecycle management.
• Demonstrated leadership and change‑management capability to promote adoption of governance frameworks globally.
• Experience working in diverse, inclusive and global environments.
• Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement of governance processes.
• Ability to establish and monitor governance KPIs, assess effectiveness and provide recommendations to leadership.

Required skills

• Advanced Power BI skills for analysing large datasets, building governance dashboards and delivering insights.
