Senior Estimator

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join our Workington office and lead the preparation of detailed, competitive cost proposals for large‑scale nuclear infrastructure projects. The role combines technical estimation, pricing strategy and close collaboration with bid, planning, procurement and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop accurate cost estimates for major tenders and early contractor involvement contracts, covering labour, plant, materials, sub‑contracts and preliminaries.
• Define and apply pricing methodologies, ensuring compliance with company governance and client requirements.
• Produce labour and plant rate structures, coordinate staffing levels and manage shift and overtime calculations in line with the Working Time Directive.
• Prepare material comparison sheets, liaise with procurement, review supplier quotations and negotiate material costs.
• Identify, evaluate and negotiate with subcontractors, produce comparison sheets and manage subcontract cost inclusions and exclusions.
• Provide cost advice to bid and design managers, highlighting value‑engineering opportunities.
• Lead and mentor assistant estimators, fostering cross‑functional collaboration.

Required profile

• Significant experience as an estimator within the nuclear or heavy‑engineering sector.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex cost packages and deliver competitive bids.
• Security Clearance (SC) eligibility or existing clearance.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and adherence to regulatory standards.
