Senior Generator Service Engineer – Critical Power

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Generator Service Engineer to join a fast‑growing engineering firm that supports critical power systems across the UK. This hands‑on position blends field service duties with workshop work, covering maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, installations and commissioning of diesel generators from 20 kVA up to 3000 kVA.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned preventative maintenance on customer‑owned and company‑owned generator sets.
• Carry out oil, filter, fluid inspections and fuel, coolant and oil sampling.
• Execute load‑bank testing and performance assessments.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on generators of all sizes.
• Respond to breakdowns and emergency call‑outs as part of an on‑call rota.
• Service and replace components such as fuel pumps, cooling systems, starters, AVRs, batteries and heaters.
• Configure and fault‑find on generator control platforms including DSE, ComAp and DEIF.
• Support synchronisation equipment, automatic transfer switches and control‑panel upgrades.
• Assist with installation, commissioning, de‑commissioning and large‑scale power projects.
• Maintain workshop servicing, testing, stock control and documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and uphold high engineering standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience servicing diesel generators up to 3000 kVA.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding abilities.
• Knowledge of generator control systems and related electrical equipment.
• Relevant electrical qualification (City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Valid CSCS or ECS card.
