Senior Rail Transport Architect

About the role

Arup is seeking a Senior Architect with a specialist focus on rail transport to join its Architecture team in the UK. You will work on high‑impact rail stations and depots, collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver sustainable, people‑centred designs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design of rail stations, depots and related transport infrastructure.
• Work closely with the Architecture Team Lead and engineering disciplines from concept through construction.
• Mentor junior architects and contribute to Arup’s “Total Architecture” approach.
• Produce detailed design documentation, specifications and construction supervision packages.
• Engage with clients, local authorities and statutory bodies to secure approvals.

Required profile

• ARB registration (RIBA chartership preferred) with proven UK experience.
• Demonstrated experience as Project Architect on at least one rail depot project from inception to completion.
• Strong communication and client‑facing skills, with a collaborative mindset.
• Commercial and contractual awareness, including experience with statutory submissions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit.
• Strong skills in InDesign.
• Experience with SketchUp, Photoshop or Illustrator.
• Knowledge of NBS specification and detailed design processes.
