Shift Lead Operator

About the role

Victrex is seeking a Shift Lead Operator to oversee manufacturing processes on a shift basis. The role combines hands‑on operation of high‑performance material production with leadership responsibilities to ensure safety, quality and on‑time delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Operate manufacturing processes safely in line with SHE and operating procedures.
• Lead shift activities to meet production plans, monitoring and optimizing process conditions using data analysis.
• Identify and correct process issues, record production data and support continuous improvement.
• Coach and support team members, embed new procedures and improvements.
• Plan and prioritize shift resources, act as Incident Controller during emergencies and issue permits according to safety procedures.

Required profile

• Experience in a complex chemical or hazardous manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of production processes, control standards and SPC.
• Good analytical ability, proactive quality‑focused mindset and attention to detail.
• Ability to plan tasks, prioritize work and lead shift activities.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, or relevant apprenticeship/industrial route.

Required skills

• Statistical Process Control (SPC) knowledge.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for frontline maintenance.
• Risk assessment training (desirable).
