Manufacturing Engineer – Defence & Space

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Portsmouth to translate cutting‑edge space and defence designs into manufacturable products. Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, you will act as the technical bridge within an Integrated Project Team, ensuring designs meet quality, cost and schedule targets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of New Product Introduction to Manufacturing and Facilities, ensuring technical, programme and cost issues meet company standards.
• Deliver Manufacturing Engineering inputs such as work instructions, routings, cost models and proposals.
• Identify facility or capability limitations and work with the team to resolve them.
• Provide technical support for problem‑solving activities including NCRs, IRB/NRBs and PPS.
• Champion Design for Manufacture and Assembly methodologies for new products.

Required profile

• Experience with high‑reliability electronics, surface‑mount assembly and RF products.
• Familiarity with the full project life‑cycle from design to production, including risk and cost management.
• General awareness of manufacturing systems such as CAD, CAM, Manufacturing Execution System, SAP and technical publications.
• Experience working in a matrix organisation and strong team‑working skills.
