Pharmacy Procurement & Distribution Supervisor

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join the Pharmacy team at Great Western Hospital as a Pharmacy Procurement & Distribution Supervisor. This role offers the chance to develop leadership skills while ensuring a safe, timely and cost‑effective medicines supply service for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Support effective procurement, stock control, storage and distribution of medicines across the Trust.
• Manage ordering activity, supplier relationships and medicine shortages, adhering to contracts, governance and value‑for‑money principles.
• Provide day‑to‑day supervision and operational leadership for Pharmacy Procurement, Stores and Distribution staff.
• Ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP) and WDA requirements, preparing for audits and delivering staff training.
• Develop, review and implement procedures that improve efficiency, quality and resilience of procurement and distribution.
• Collaborate with pharmacy, clinical and non‑clinical colleagues to support medicines optimisation and patient care when required.

Required profile

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC registration (or working towards it) OR a CIPS Level 4 Diploma (or demonstrable progress) with ongoing professional development in procurement or supply chain management.
• Ability to work at Band 5 level, with a development pathway from Band 4 for candidates showing strong potential.
• Commitment to a supported development plan and progression based on competency achievement.
