Wireless Research Manager

About the role

BT’s Wireless Research Team is looking for a manager to lead applied research that will shape the future of radio access and Wi‑Fi networks. You will work across multiple sites (London, Ipswich or Bristol) in a hybrid model, turning emerging wireless concepts into actionable insights for BT’s network strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct advanced modelling, simulation and analysis of wireless connectivity technologies and use cases.
• Lead lab‑based hypothesis testing for technologies such as SU/MU‑MIMO, active antenna systems, channel access mechanisms and emerging wireless sensing capabilities.
• Perform radio channel measurements and support field trials.
• Carry out techno‑economic analysis to evaluate commercial and operational implications of new technologies.
• Engage with standards bodies, vendors, universities and industry forums to influence the wider wireless ecosystem.
• Collaborate with internal network architecture, design and strategy teams to ensure research outcomes have a viable path to adoption.

Required profile

• Strong fundamentals in wireless communications and a track record of leading applied research projects.
• Ability to build consensus, make sound technical judgments and translate complex technology into clear recommendations.
• Experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders and influencing standards or internal roadmaps.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and travelling to the office three days per week.
