Autopilot Engineer (Control)

About the role

Stark is seeking an Autopilot Engineer to join its Control team and develop customized autopilot firmware for high‑performance unmanned vehicles. Reporting to the Head of Control, you will work on integrating autonomous system commands with AI components and ensure reliable operation in demanding environments.

Key responsibilities

• Optimize, modify and program autopilot firmware to handle system commands.
• Ensure compatibility with AI modules and integrate firmware into simulation environments using software‑in‑the‑loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
• Debug and test both the autopilot code and its integration with the controller.
• Collaborate with the team to solve emerging technical challenges.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• 3–6 years of experience in autopilot or embedded systems development.
• Eligibility for UK Security Clearance and willingness to work 2‑3 days per week on‑site in South West England.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of the MAVLink protocol.
• Proficiency with PX4 firmware.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Deep understanding of microcontrollers for real‑time operating systems.
• Solid grasp of control systems theory.
