Branch Manager Designate – Builders Merchant

About the role

We are seeking a Branch Manager Designate for a leading builders merchant. The role involves supporting day‑to‑day operations, driving commercial performance and leading a team at our London Stansted Airport branch.

Key responsibilities

• Support daily branch operations, maintain high customer service standards and ensure health & safety compliance.
• Assist with stock management, accuracy, housekeeping and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Help achieve sales and profitability targets, identify margin‑boosting opportunities and build strong relationships with trade and retail customers.
• Lead, motivate and develop branch colleagues, support recruitment, induction and training, and promote a positive team culture.
• Deliver excellent customer service, resolve issues promptly and promote company products and value‑added services.
• Ensure safe working practices, support audits and uphold a strong safety culture.
• Understand branch budgets, monitor costs, assist with credit control, cash management and loss prevention.

Required profile

• Previous experience within a builders’ merchant environment.
• Supervisory or assistant/branch manager experience.
• Strong customer service orientation and commercial awareness.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisational and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of £50,000‑£55,000 per year, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time role with Monday‑Friday schedule and occasional Saturdays.
