Category Assistant – Commercial Buying

About the role

This hybrid role supports the Category Manager in growing assigned product categories for Toolstation, a fast‑growing retailer of tools and building supplies. You will work from a location within commuting distance of Northampton or Bridgwater.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Category Manager to develop strategies for category growth and profitability.
• Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and timely issue resolution.
• Prepare and maintain commercial plans, reports, product data and pricing files.
• Assist with general administrative tasks to keep the category management function running efficiently.

Required profile

• Highly personable, detail‑focused and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal teams.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively and work collaboratively.
• Understanding of commercial team operations is beneficial, though not essential.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with PowerPoint, Word and Google Suite.
