Chief Financial Officer – Retail Group

About the role

Harper May Ltd, a mid‑market multi‑channel retailer operating across the UK and Europe, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join the executive team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the CFO will be responsible for all financial management, strategy and governance as the business scales its retail estate and e‑commerce platform.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a three‑year financial plan aligned with growth targets across channels and geographies.
• Establish robust forecasting and reporting cadences to monitor performance against KPIs.
• Oversee working capital, inventory valuation and cash‑flow optimisation throughout the supply chain.
• Lead financial controls, audit liaison and ensure compliance with statutory and tax obligations.
• Manage and grow the finance function, recruiting talent as the organisation expands.
• Provide strategic advice on store investment, acquisitions and technology spend.
• Challenge margin assumptions and drive operational efficiency across all trading formats.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with senior finance leadership experience in retail or consumer businesses.
• Proven hands‑on track record in multi‑site operational environments with strong inventory and cash discipline.
• Commercial mindset with deep understanding of retail unit economics and margin drivers.
• Comfortable with technology and financial systems, able to raise reporting maturity.
• Board‑level presence and the ability to influence without direct authority.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves and mentor a growing finance team.
