County and Diocesan Archivist

About the role
This permanent, full‑time position leads the Buckinghamshire Archives (BA) as County and Diocesan Archivist. You will shape the strategic direction of the service, oversee its relocation to High Wycombe, and ensure the collections remain accessible and engaging for the community.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and day‑to‑day management of the Archives service.
- Guide the team through the move to a new premises and develop related outreach plans.
- Develop and implement policies and strategies aligned with council priorities and national standards.
- Foster partnerships with local organisations, community groups and educational institutions.
- Promote the collections through public programmes, exhibitions and digital initiatives.
Required profile
- Proven experience in archive or records management, preferably in a public sector setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and team‑management capabilities.
- Relevant higher education qualification (e.g., Bachelor's degree in History, Archival Studies, Information Management or related field).
- Strong understanding of heritage, community engagement and public service delivery.
