Director, Head of High‑Risk Client Activity – Financial Crimes Risk

About the role

Join Citi's Financial Crimes Risk team as the Head of High‑Risk Client Activity, leading a small team of subject‑matter experts to manage financial‑crime risks associated with high‑risk clients using Services products. This global, first‑line role works closely with product, sales, regional and compliance teams to keep risks within Citi’s appetite and ensure effective controls.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the client portfolio to ensure it remains within the defined risk appetite and maintain documentation of control processes.
• Run the Secretariat for client‑approval and escalation committees, ensuring disciplined execution and timely resolution of actions.
• Collaborate with ICRM, Compliance Assurance and Internal Audit to interpret requirements, resolve issues and track corrective action plans.
• Prepare and present updates on emerging risks, control gaps and enhancements to senior management and governance committees.
• Maintain the Manager’s Control Assessment, track KYC delinquencies, analyse activity reviews and drive follow‑up actions across the portfolio.

Required profile

• Significant experience in financial‑crime, regulatory compliance or risk management within a financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of obligations and regulations for banking services to financial institutions, non‑bank FI and VASPs.
• Strong understanding of payments systems and associated risks.
• Professional financial‑crime certification preferred (e.g., ACAMS, ACSS).
• Knowledge of blockchain technology, digital assets and related financial‑crime risks.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with senior stakeholders.
• Proven people‑management capability and ability to drive change across a global organisation.
• Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree is desirable.
