Director of People – Senior HR Leader

About the role

The Director of People will join the Hospital Leadership Team at Aintree University Hospital, shaping the workforce strategy for a major teaching hospital. Reporting to senior executives, you will drive cultural transformation and ensure the people agenda aligns with operational priorities and long‑term NHS goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of a progressive people strategy aligned with the NHS People Plan and the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group ambitions.
• Oversee high‑quality people services, including recruitment, retention, learning and development, and employee experience.
• Partner with executive and senior colleagues to embed workforce priorities that support safe, compassionate, and sustainable patient care.
• Champion an inclusive culture where staff feel valued, empowered, and able to thrive.
• Monitor and report on people metrics, ensuring alignment with operational and transformation goals.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leadership experience in complex, large‑scale organisations, preferably within the NHS or healthcare sector.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural change.
• Strong credibility, vision, and ambition to shape the future workforce of a teaching hospital.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills, with a track record of delivering results at scale.
