Driver Manager

About the role

Arriva is seeking a Driver Manager for its Gillingham depot. This permanent position combines operational oversight with a strong focus on people management and employee relations, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high‑performing driver team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operational delivery of services, maintaining safety, compliance and efficiency.
• Take ownership of employee‑relations matters including attendance, grievances, disciplinaries, capability and conduct.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of drivers, setting clear expectations and fostering a positive working environment.
• Work proactively with trade‑union representatives to resolve ER issues professionally.
• Drive improvements in attendance, performance, engagement and overall workforce behaviour.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, company standards and safety requirements.
• Monitor performance metrics and identify both people‑focused and operational improvement opportunities.
• Support depot leadership in achieving business and people objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in people management and handling complex employee‑relations issues.
• Strong background in managing attendance, grievances and disciplinary processes.
• Experience working with trade unions and handling sensitive employee matters.
• Operational management experience, preferably within transport, logistics or a similarly regulated environment.
• Eligible for, or currently qualified as, a Transport Manager (O‑Licence holder).
