Engineer – Lighting Team (North West)

About the role

National Highways is seeking an Engineer to join its Lighting team in the North West region. The role focuses on the asset management of street lighting, including feeder pillars, lighting columns, lanterns, illuminated signs, bollards and associated cable networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop feasibility studies and preliminary designs for lighting improvements and renewals.
• Compile and verify documentation, evidence and value‑management options, considering new techniques, materials, buildability and cost.
• Identify and evaluate asset data to create early solutions aligned with methodology and prioritisation criteria.
• Prepare briefs for survey works and external design contractors.
• Design highway renewal and maintenance schemes while ensuring health, safety and wellbeing considerations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in the relevant discipline, ideally with a Degree, HND or HNC.
• Experience in highway construction, delivery methods and electrical renewal schemes.
• Full driving licence with no more than three penalty points.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with cable calculation software.
• Good knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
