Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join a fast‑growing, private‑equity backed business with multiple sites and a £15 million turnover. Reporting to the CFO and the PE sponsor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial performance and financial governance of the company.

Key responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, reporting key drivers to the CFO and private‑equity sponsor.
• Deliver monthly management accounts and board/KPI packs within a five‑day reporting cycle.
• Maintain robust financial controls, accounting procedures and reconciliations for a regulated financial services business.
• Own the audit process, manage statutory accounts and oversee relationships with advisors and auditors.
• Own the finance reporting platform and ensure seamless integration with operational systems.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting and bank reporting.
• Maintain approval workflows and process documentation that scale with growth.
• Drive efficiency across finance processes and systems, supporting exit and due‑diligence readiness.
• Provide commercial insight and partner with budget holders on performance and forecasts.
• Support board and investor reporting, including quarterly private‑equity updates.
• Manage the wider finance function and contribute to ad‑hoc projects as required.

Required profile

• Recognised professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience in a private‑equity backed environment with leadership capability to scale the finance function.
• Strong technical accounting and management‑accounts expertise with regulatory awareness.
• Proven track record of improving finance systems and processes, ideally using Xero or similar platforms.
• Experience leading finance transformation, automation or systems initiatives.
• Exposure to a recurring‑revenue, people‑led financial services model.
• Commercial awareness and stakeholder‑management skills to influence senior leadership and investors.
• Ability to drive change in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial setting.
