About the role
The Head of Modern Foreign Languages will join the Middle Leadership Team of a brand‑new 11‑16 academy in south Bristol. You will help shape the academy’s language provision, lead extra‑curricular opportunities and support the development of high‑quality teaching and learning.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Modern Foreign Languages department and contribute to the academy’s strategic direction.
- Design and deliver a rich, extra‑curricular language programme for students.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, staff and the wider community.
- Collaborate with year teams and other leaders to improve standards across the school.
- Participate in academy life beyond formal lessons, including meetings and coaching programmes.

- Genuine commitment to working with young people and supporting their success.
- High personal and professional integrity and openness to feedback.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Flexibility, adaptability, resilience and willingness to engage in academy life.
- Ability to simplify complex ideas and communicate clearly to diverse audiences.
- Interest in educational research and continuous personal development.
- Strong teamwork orientation.
