Highways Inspector – £40-45k (London)

About the role

Join a forward‑thinking organisation dedicated to safe and efficient road networks. As a Highways Inspector you will ensure compliance with the Highways Act 1980, protect road users and support the maintenance team across London and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine and ad‑hoc highway inspections within an assigned geographic area.
• Identify defects, record findings on mobile devices and log them in the asset management system.
• Oversee internal and third‑party works, confirming they meet safety specifications.
• Assist the Deputy Roads Manager with permits and traffic management plan reviews.
• Supervise works during day and night shifts, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
• Engage with the public to resolve complaints, conduct investigations and, if required, represent the authority in court.
• Support emergency response and winter‑season road management.
• Maintain and operate a company vehicle responsibly.

Required profile

• City & Guilds LANTRA Safety Highways Inspector qualification.
• GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
• Minimum 1 year experience in highway maintenance or related inspections.
• Valid driver’s licence.
